Ruby Wedding Anniversary celebration at Hattonchatel Chateau in France

What an achievement we are happily planning to celebrate our 40 years of marriage our Ruby Wedding Anniversary

I am planning to surprise my husband with a gift to celebrate the occasion with something special – something non- traditional, so a romantic weekend for us two in France was just the thing – and there I found it, the idyllic castle “Hattonchatel Château”

Hattonchatel estate

After a pleasant flight of 1 ¼ hours from Denmark we landed in Luxembourg. We had rented a car in advance with a GPS , the extra charge was a small price to pay to help us arrive easier to the castle.   The car was parked for free of charge in the ground floor of the airport, we were quickly on our way.

We arrived to a quaint little village, we reached the end of the road, at first we were doubtful if we had arrived to the  ”right castle “where we would be staying but at that moment we were phoned by the French manager Francois, who confirmed that we were in the right place. We were greeted and invited inside, it was love at first sight.

Francois gave us a tour around and explained some the castle’s interesting history, luckily no ghost stories, and the castle had only positive feeling and a unique ambience and atmosphere – as a whole, we received excellent service.

Gourmet dinner for two at the Castle

The first evening we had pre-booked a gourmet dinner for two at the Castle with our own personal Chef called Fabian. The meal was served to us in the magnificent dining hall – the table was set with white crisp linen and a glowing candelabra, it was all incredibly romantic.

We were served the most wonderful tasty food, delicious desserts, French wine, freshly brewed coffee and liquers. Before dinner the impressive large open fireplace had been lit, so the room was warm and comfortable, especially for us.

It was an incredible experience in itself just to sit and watch the glowing flames from the big fireplace and hear the crackling sound from the resin.

Furthermore, we were given a luxurious, spacious and elegant castle -room with en-suite bathroom (it was of course the castle’s impressive bridal suite).
We felt like Baron and Baroness as we had the entire castle to ourselves!!.
We enjoyed some wonderful days, with excursions to cities such as Nancy and Metz.

On the castles recommendation we ate dinner at a lovely restaurant at Lac du Madine and in also in a castle not far from Verdun, but it was not in the same class as Hattonchatel. This castle had been transformed into a Hotel, and had unfortunately lost its castle atmosphere and charm, as the castle Château Hattonchatel still holds.

All in all a very successful trip and celebration of our Ruby wedding anniversary – we could not have wished for more everything was just as we wanted.

… … … … …

Sincerely,
