Canaries are cheapest

Getting married in the Canaries costs an average of just over 16,000€ but the consolation is that the region is the cheapest in the country for tying the knot.

The national average estimated is 18,380€ is 11 per cent down on the figure for last year, according to a comprehensive study by consumer group FUCI. Spokeswoman Agustina Laguna said the cost would continue to fall due to the economic crisis, which has forced businesses to rethink their pricing in order to attract weddings. Of the overall cost, the reception is by far the biggest single item, with lunch or dinner accounting for half the total, based on an average cost of around 80€ per head.
Behind the Canaries in the cheapest region table come Andalusia and Asturias, while Madrid tops the league with an average cost of 22,000 €. According to FUCI a quarter of all couples now take out a personal loan to cover the cost of their wedding.
